Truss Tomatos

Now is a great time to buy Truss Tomatos. I have been able to buy some beautiful tomotos at the best price I have seen for a while.

Truss tomotoes are great for Summer Salads and adding flavors to meals. When I am buying truss tomatoes I am looking for a red blush colors and the firmness of the tomoto. If the color is too dark it could be that the tomato is close to over-ripening. I also look to see how fresh the leaves are on the vine. That provides a good indication of freshness and taste.

Our fresh Gluten Free bread from Deeks is proving to be very popular. We only get one delivery a week and it goes very quickly. We started ordering 6 loaves a week and now that has gone very quickly up to an order of 70 – 80 loaves. We get all the varieties of bread - Tomato and Basil, Quinoa, Fruit Log, Multi Seed and Chocolate Log.

Our customers are loving this bread because of its fresh taste, it is easy to cut without falling apart and it toasts well. All the breads are handmade and only the best ingredients are used.

Just for this week we have a great price on Avocados… only $1.50 each and asparagus $1.99 each. Get in quick!

Tasting of Blue Cow cheese went really well last Saturday. The blue cheese was the pick of the day. We have a good range of Blue Cow in store right now

Blueberries and strawberries are pick of fruits this weeks. They are best eaten fresh but you can easily freeze them ….. We have a couple of great recipes on our website. One is for berry syrup which is a great way to use any excess fruit you have and enjoy these great summer fruits for longer

Kumato tomatoes are back in stock this week.

They are sweeter than normal tomatoes, with a slighty sour note, which makes for a unique and clearly defined taste sensation. These tomatoes are very juicy and firm in texture, which means they are an excellent choice when preparing salads and many tomato-based recipes.

We have instore a new fruit called mangomelon. The skin is similar to a honeydew and the flesh like a rockmelon. The fruit is sweet and has the taste a little bit like mango/rockmelon. We might have some tastings for these through the week.

Also we have been doing instore tasting on most days this week. We do this so you, our customer, can get to sample the freshness of our fruits, any new product we have sourced and different combinations of flavours. We hope you enjoy them.

I went to the market this morning at 5am and got blueberries at the best price and really fresh. When I buy blueberries I look for the firmness of the fruit which indicates their freshness.

When they are firm they will last much longer in your fridge and they are a bit “crunchy “ to eat

The Mangoes are really good colour.

Peaches and Nectarines a really good price and have come down by about $5 per kilo.

I’m expecting banana prices to come down in the next 2 weeks. After the cyclone last year, production is just getting back to normal levels so we should see the prices coming down.

Overall the pricing of fruit and veg is very good due to nice weather we are seeing the best pricing I have seen since I have been in this business, so get in to 7 Star now .

Blue Cow cheese from South Australia have a cheddar, brie, cream brie and blue. We have tasting in store in our Newtown store this weekend so come on in and try some.

Deeks Gluten Free bread unfortunately have had a price increase so all our prices have had to go up but you can still buy cheaper from 7 Star than you can buy on-line from Deeks.
